Scott Riggs California Speedway Pre-Race Report
FONTANA, Calif. (Feb. 21, 2008) – Scott Riggs and his No. 66 Haas CNC Racing team will carry the colors of the team’s parent company Haas Automation Inc. as they take to the track at California Speedway for Sunday’s running of the Auto Club 500.
This will be the first race on an intermediate track for the newly designed NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race car. The car, nicknamed the “Car of Tomorrow,” was used in 16 races during the 2007 season, but only on short tracks (1-mile or less), road courses and at Talladega Superspeedway in October.
In seven starts at California Speedway Riggs has one Top-10, a 7th-place finish in September 2004. His average finish here is 25th.
“California is a hard, slick track and just like at Daytona there’s a fine line between getting fast and being controllable,” Riggs said. “We learned a lot at our California test in January and we feel good about the package we have here. Bootie and the team are doing a great job and we’ll continue to work together to get better.”
The No. 66 team is using chassis No. 415 here. This chassis was new in December 2006 and raced last season (as the No. 70 team) at the April Martinsville race and in June at Dover.
Sunday’s running of the Auto Club 500 from California Speedway in Fontana, Calif., will be televised live on FOX beginning at 3:30 p.m. EST and on your local MRN affiliate at 4 p.m. EST.
