No. 70 Team Rebounds at Vegas
LAS VEGAS (March 3, 2008) -- Jeremy Mayfield drove his No. 70 Haas Automation Chevrolet Impala SS to a 16th-place finish in Sunday’s UAW 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway here.
The finish provided a welcome boost to the No. 70 Haas CNC Racing team following a trying 39th-place finish in California last week.
“We made some huge gains today,” Mayfield said. “This is definitely something we can build on. It’s a step in the right direction for sure,” he added.
Mayfield knew early on that his car was much better than it was during Saturday’s practice sessions where he posted the slowest time of all the drivers qualified for Sunday’s race.
“We just needed to be a little bit better,” Mayfield said. “The car was loose all day long, but Dave (crew chief Dave Skog) and the team did a great job making adjustments in the pits so that we could finish as well as we did,” he said. “I’m really proud of the team for overcoming what happened on Saturday. That’s pretty cool.”
From Las Vegas the No. 70 team headed to Phoenix for a NASCAR-sanctioned testing session Monday and Tuesday. Following a brief stop at home they will head to Atlanta for Sunday’s running of the Kobalt Tools 500. The race will be broadcast live on Fox beginning at 2 p.m. EST and on local PRN radio affiliates.
