Building Momentum is Key for Mayfield at Atlanta

ATLANTA (March 7, 2008) – Following a solid 16th-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last week, Jeremy Mayfield and the No. 70 Haas Automation team will be looking to build momentum by following it up with a strong race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday.

“This will be an important week for us to build confidence as a team,” Mayfield said. “We rebounded nicely last week after what happened at California. I’m very proud of our team’s effort at Vegas,” he said. “The first five races of the season are critical when it comes to owner’s point’s and consecutive good finishes would set us up pretty well moving forward.”

In 22 starts here Mayfield has four Top-5 finishes, five Top-10s, and a best finish of 2nd (March 2004). His average starting position is 18th, and his average finish is 24th.

“I like going to Atlanta, it’s a good place to race,” Mayfield said. “You can run high or low which makes for a lot passing and good racing.”

Mayfield and the No. 70 team will be carrying the memory of Garrett Reid Toney in their thoughts and prayers this weekend. The 2-month-old son of the No. 66 team’s lead engineer, Jonathan Toney, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday.

“It’s a tragedy for all of the Haas CNC Racing family,” Mayfield said. “When one of us is hurting we’re all hurting. The Toney family is in our thoughts and prayers.”

Sunday’s running of the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway will be broadcast live on Fox beginning at 2 p.m. EST and on local PRN radio affiliates.
